OVERVIEW

The Head of School serves as the spiritual, academic, and executive leader of Evergreen Classical School. This individual clearly communicates the vision of Evergreen Classical School and ensures the school remains Christ-centered, focused on personal excellence, and fully aligned with our mission to “recognize, desire and proclaim the triune God of the Bible through that which is True, Good and Beautiful. The Head of School is accountable to the Board of Directors and serves as both advisor to the Board and representative of the school in the broader community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Spiritual Leadership

  • Lead yourself, those under your care, and the school closer to Christ in all facets of life: teaching, prayer and service. 

  • Demonstrate a commitment to spiritual and intellectual excellence which students seek to emulate. 

  • Lead from a foundation in the grace of Jesus Christ and ensure all teaching and administration are biblically grounded.

  • Address personnel and co-teachers with vision, empathy, wisdom and accountability.

Academic Leadership

  • Actively participate in the Great Conversation.

  • Collaborate with and be an active member of the Academics Committee. 

  • Provide support and accountability in the areas of curriculum development and implementation.

  • Develop a culture which aims towards the portrait of a graduate.

  • Evaluate how teaching integrates faith and learning.

  • Challenge faculty and staff, students and co-teachers to lead lives of excellence spiritually, professionally, and academically.

Executive Leadership

  • Safeguard and advance the mission and vision of the school. 

  • Display professionalism in all situations. 

  • Support and implement the Board’s Strategic Vision, including developing the Rhetoric School. 

  • Collaborate with the board on the school’s strategic plan and oversee implementation. 

  • Recruit, mentor and lead staff.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local schools, ministries, and civic organizations.

  • Oversee a thriving admissions program.

Finance 

  • Practice strong financial management, budgeting, and business procedures.

  • Approve and monitor expenditures within the Board-approved budget.

  • Apply for grants and oversee grant reporting requirements.

Facilities

  • Seek to foster a cohesive relationship with the host church. 

  • Treat the facility as if we owned it, while remembering we are a guest.

  • Schedule all seasonal performances and off cycle activities.

Ex-Officio Board Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Board’s educational consultant, providing analysis and recommendations on school operations and strategy.

  • Serve as advisor to the Board of Directors and attend all Board meetings.

  • Implement Board policies through sound administrative principles and procedures.

  • Provide recommendations on personnel, curriculum, and assessment.

EVALUATION

The Head of School is evaluated annually by the Head of School Support and Evaluation Committee (HSEC) of the Board of Directors, based on operational performance and performance of strategic goals which align with the school’s mission and strategic vision.
